Happy September! The seasons will be changing soon and it’s the perfect opportunity to fine-tune your skincare regime. To facilitate that, we’re thrilled to add PRP MicroNeedling to the treatment menu!
First off, what is MicroNeedling?
On its’ own, MicroNeedling is a type of collagen induction therapy that stimulates the body’s collagen and elastin production. This helps to tighten, lift and rejuvenate the skin and reduces fine lines, wrinkles, minimizes pores, stretch marks as well as aging skin and acne scars.
We have offered MicroNeedling with Hyaluronic Acid (HA) & growth factors in our practice for a long time and use the Eclipse Micropen Elite. It’s a device with tiny needles that prick the skin, leaving little ‘micro-injuries’ to the dermis, which then works to heal these ‘micro-injuries’. When this happens, the body produces collagen and elastin to heal the injuries, which plumps up the skin and leaves it more firm, flexible, supple and gives it a youthful appearance. This treatment is great for stretch marks, crow’s feet, acne scars, hyperpigmentation and aging skin.
Does it hurt?
This is a common question, and we get it! You are subjecting your skin to injury, and certainly, that must hurt, right? We do apply a numbing cream to the skin prior to the treatment, which acts relatively quick once we get started. Once the skin is numb, you will just feel a bit of pressure where the device is traveling over the skin.
What is PRP MicroNeedling?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma and is an extract of your own blood that contains platelets, growth factors and active proteins for tissue and injury healing. When you arrive for the procedure, and after the topical anesthetic is applied, one of our nurses will draw 10 ccs of blood. This is less than a normal blood draw during routine blood tests. While you relax, the blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the red & white blood cells from the plasma, which usually takes about 5-10 minutes. There is a gel separator in the tube and the red & white blood cells migrate to the bottom of the tube while the platelet-rich plasma rises to the top.
The platelet-rich plasma is then spread on the skin and we use the Eclipse MicroNeedling Pen to begin the microneedling procedure. The PRP is introduced into the dermis through the micro-injuries that are made, and it initiates a localized cell response and increased blood flow to the area, which begins the process of building collagen and elastin to repair the damage.
There is very little downtime with PRP Microneedling, and the process creates more vibrancy and tone to the skin due to the growth factors found in the platelets. It also speeds the healing time and production of collagen and elastin due to the increased vascularity that infuses the injured area.
Advantages of PRP MicroNeedling
- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles around the lip area, forehead, crow’s feet, under the eyes and chin
- Reduction in the appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation

- Tightening of the skin on the jawline
- Smoothing of acne scars and general scar revision

Preparing for your appointment
- Drink plenty of water prior to your appointment. It’s important to come to your appointment well hydrated for an easy blood draw.
- Minimize caffeine intake to prevent dehydration
- Plan to arrive bare-faced (no makeup)
What can you expect after PRP MicroNeedling?
We will apply another layer of PRP to your skin after the MicroNeedling session and we recommend that you not wash your face or remove it for 4-6 hours to allow full absorption. With the increased blood flow to the area, you will notice a glow within days and more vibrancy and tone within 30 -45 days (this is the amount of time for skin cell turnover). You may want to keep this in mind if you have an important event coming up.
The effects of PRP MicroNeedling can last 12 months to two years depending on the individual and can be combined with IPL Laser Photofacial, Botox, and fillers. If the procedure is combined with another treatment, the PRP MicroNeedling will be done as the secondary treatment.
After your PRP MicroNeedling session, we recommend that you avoid direct sun exposure and wear sunscreen every day. Use a gentle cleanser or gel cleansing product and avoid any exfoliants that may irritate your skin, and moisturize property to keep the skin hydrated.
This treatment is recommended and most effective in a series of 3. For the month of September, we are offering PRP MicroNeedling for $599 per session (reg. $699), or a series of 3 sessions for $1650.
