We’re welcoming October with Pumpkin Spice and clear skin! We put our skin through a lot over the summer – dry weather conditions, excessive sun, and maybe not-so-good food & beverage choices. If you’re noticing that the glow is gone, it might be time for an IPL (Intense Pulse Light) treatment.

If you are new to laser skin treatments, it’s similar to laser hair removal in that they both use light and heat to destroy the target, which is usually hyperpigmentation, coarse skin, spider veins, redness, fine lines, and rosacea.

The process usually takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the area, and the laser uses pulses of light to penetrate the skin at a deep level, which in turn causes collagen and blood vessels to constrict.

The skin senses these light pulses as an injury, and when our skin is injured collagen springs into action to repair the injury resulting in plumper skin and reduced age lines, while the constriction of the blood vessels reduces redness.

There may be some redness and swelling immediately following the treatment. If you have areas of hyperpigmentation, age spots, and sun damage, you may notice that these areas will look more pronounced (a peppering effect) before they start to fade; this is normal. Following the treatment, you will need to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen religiously as your skin goes through the rejuvenation process. After 7-10 days, you should notice a visible improvement in the texture, firmness of your skin as well as an increase in volume.

Cynosure Fractional Laser + IPL

If you want to supercharge your IPL treatment, we recommend adding the Cynosure Fractional Laser. This laser treatment also uses light energy heat to refresh the skin and can be used for wrinkles around the eyes, crow’s feet, wrinkles around the mouth, frown lines, vertical lip lines, facial wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and stretch marks.

When Fractional Laser is combined with IPL, it leads to an increased improvement in the texture of the skin as well as an evener skin tone. IPL is perfect to help permanently remove hyperpigmentation and the Fraxel Laser treatment works with fine lines. Both treatments help stimulate collagen production and lessen the visible signs of aging.

Halloween is almost here!
