What causes crow’s feet?
Changes in the appearance of the eyelid are one of the earliest signs of facial aging, and are the first to occur in the upper third of the face. Crow’s feet are horizontal lines that start at the outer corner of the eye and extend outward. They are caused by frequent squinting and facial expressions, and are often called laugh lines.
Additionally, a decline in the production of collagen & eslastin as we age contribute to these eye wrinkles. In normal circumstance, crow’s feet are an expressive wrinkle that is associated with joy. However, as we age and the upper eyelid starts to droop as well, it makes us look tired and many people want a little extra help to make them look as awake as they feel. Our approach is conservative in this area because we don’t want our patients to have a ‘frozen face’ or no expression.
